Big hog at night with my .58

Before work last night, I slipped down into my hog hunting set up, ( is hot a good one Saturday as well) this pig had been in and out all night long according to my game cam. the bait is 12 yards from my ground blind and my feeder lights were on, this boar slipped in about 9 pl. since im using open sights I turned on the red light on my headlamp. my front sight I paint white. so when I turn on the red headlamp it shows me the white front bead and the rear sight I lined them up slightly above the elbow. squeezed the trigger. the 570 ball passed through him he piled up about 30 yards away. .570 ball .018 ticking patch 80 grains of pyro RS. the awesome thing is I bought this 58 from a forumn member a year or so ago. hoping to take one at night with my flintlock 50 this weekend.

A lot of pork. As others have asked, any guesstimate on it's weight? Around here the best eating comes from ones under 100 pounds.

Thank you men. im a horrible guestimator at weight im around 235 id even hate to guess. im in a natural hub for hogs pineywoods meet the creek bottoms the property im on has 2 major creeks running through it bordered by the 14,000 acre Alabama Creek WMA we have the neches river within 2 miles and we are 6 miles in the middle of the forest on a small 150 acre tract. 30 hogs so far this year 67 last year. arrows cost me 20.00 a hog my powder patch and ball maybe 35 cents no matter which caiber I use except my .72 double. I meant to get a picture with my .58 just didn't have time had to get a pic hike out to get 4 wheeler get him quartered and on ice. in SE texas that less than 2 hrs in the heat. There is a measurement and formula to guestimate the weight im gonna try to carry a tape and measure so I can approximate the weight

Funny you mention $20 dollars an arrow. Took one a few years ago while archery hunting, but shot it with a pistol for that exact reason. It was a large boar. The guy that hauled it away claimed it was near 400 pounds. I would have guessed 250 max. Anyway, he spent a lot of time prepping and cooking the meat in a variety of ways. I know of no one that took a second bite after their first. In my opinion it just plane had a rank odor to it.

The lease property owner where I currently hunt wants the hogs off his property. They are rapidly multiplying and doing a lot of damage. He recently joking offered a bounty. Seeing them on cameras, but have had no actual encounters.

Will be spending a lot more time in the woods now that it’s cooling down and hunting season is only a couple weeks away. And you always want to keep the land owner happy. Would love to take one with my short barreled 58 flint - only one in the hunting group that regularly carries a flintlock.
