So how did I solve the frustrating dilemma of finally getting the buckle the forged look black color I wanted ??I have a can of Rustoleum High Heat stove black paint. It is tough stuff and will hold up to high heat. I sprayed the buckle with that (several small coats) and let it dry completely. I didn't care for the ultra dull bland finish so I oversprayed the buckle with a semi-gloss poly and let it dry completely. Today it looks really nice, like a forged buckle that was oil quenched with a little bit of sheen. That polyurethane will protect the black undercoat from scratching and it will always stay nice. Looking forward to mounting that black buckle to a bag strap. I'm happy with the end results.Ohio Rusty ><>
