yes I have used it for a protective coat on my 1187 sp shot gun, it has oiled walnut stock. sure helps keep'n the water out duck hunt'n. not much for finishing wood thu.
 
I use it on both my muzzle loaders and their ram rods as well. I use a small toothbrush to remove the white dried residue that sometimes forms in small incised lines. Both my rifles are finished with True-Oil tamed with 0000 steel wool. I rubbed very light coats of the True-Oil into the stock with my fingers and applied several light coats. I use Rem Oil for the metal surfaces and bore. All this stuff smells good to me during my gun cleaning ritual. Odd isn't it?
