B.S.

Unburnt powder from tens of thousands of rounds and hundreds of shooters collects in astroturf. Enough that something hot touches and lights it off.

Range needs to wash down their filthy range with water once in awhile and lift the idiotic ban, but good luck explaining to the FUDDs that poor maintenance caused it.

Ours was washed down every sunday morning. But 14-20 of unburnt AR powder cases, years of buildup in the sound baffling on the wall equals poof. Unburnt powder got caught up in the sound baffling as well over 12 years. Just like in the astroturf did.

That’s crazy? What kind of maxi state is that?
Sounds like an elitist club trying to keep out the riff raff. You know, average people. Seems there's always groups or clubs of well off people that enjoy there position and look down their noses at the average Joe. Massive fees to join and maintain are a status symbol for them. Doesn't bother me, I probably wouldnt care to associate with most of them if I could pay the fees.

There's not many good reasons living as isolated as we are in parts of Montana, but you sure gave me a good one here. We have a local range about a mile from town, pretty primitive the toilet is pretty crude, the sun shade isn't big but the range does go to 1057 yards with target stands at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500. The next step is 1057 yards. Most of the time when you go you're by yourself, there are only about 3 club events all year. The dues are $20 a year.
Squint

I be's moving to Montana as soon as I can sell up...............................................well, no, much as I'd like to, it's not possible. Uncle Sam already told me he doesn't want me.

I cannot shoot on several ranges at my home club due to offensive smell. I replied that wolfe and tula steel is offensive smelling to me. Kinda like dirty diapers. Ban shootin em please. And then there is the flying brass issue. Sorry, I know modern stuff.
Must be ammonia in the formula.

This new rule sucks and hopefully they'll come to their senses and remove it. At least you have a club you can shoot at. The only club near me has a whopping $10,000 initiation fee and a $195 monthly fee to join.
Do they serve cocktails and horderves? Do they wear tails after 6?"

Our range just banned shooting B/P in their excellent outdoor facility, even when instruction, etc. is not in session. When asked, they gave no reason, just "that's the way it is now". Big let down for our group. They banned indoor B/P shooting years ago..."clogs up their exhaust filtering system" (that maybe I could understand).

Just another Tactical Tommy range. They don’t want people to come shoot, they want to sell their classes. Dime-a-dozen and they will be gone fairly soon just like all the others.

Shooting a shotgun with paper ,fiber wads will throw a few sparks.
I've seen several grass fires on clays ranges, woods and field.

But that was 247 years ago. Surely we would reconsider it or at least should by now for you.

247 years ago, my father's ancestors were eking a living in rural southern Ireland, and my mom's people were harvesting apples somewhere in rural Buckinghamshire. I doubt if either had heard of the colonies, and cared not a jot, having their own hoes to row and poor lives to live.

Some really sad ranges being mentioned and lots of posts Id like to reply to

My range is $300/yr and an extra $50 for my over 18 son. Under 18 kid is free. Guests at $10/ea per day. Public on 2 ranges (25 and 200) for 25/day. Without guests I have 8 other ranges including a draw-n-shoot with all sorts of steel. Plate racks with the 1858 are fun :) There is also a variety of steel at the 200 yard berm for all to enjoy

Can shoot anything except tracers/APIT/etc and no tannerite or recognizeable people targets (standard silhouettes are fine faces are not) and interest/questions regarding my ML stuff is usually counter balanced by a buddy and his machine guns.

Only BP complaint Ive heard has been "Now Im hungry for BBQ"

I never understood the target ban. Are we really that sensitive that we cant stand seeing someone shoot a piece of paper with a caracature of Trump, or Biden or Obama or Bush. Put your ex wife's picture on it if you want to, who really cares.

Sounds familiar. They come to the range decked out in para-military attire sporting a big gut. They shoot a modern rifle with tons of ridiculous stuff hung from it. They then duck walk around the firing line, in an awkward firing position. Finally, they spray bullets at a close target, and miss repeatedly often shooting the walls and baffles.

When you or I take one shot with a flintlock and center punch the target it makes them look foolish. The best solution is to ban black powder shooting. They never think of learing to shoot well.

My club is $200 initiation fee ( includes a background check) $50 per year, and my 12 year old grandson joined for $10 per year and no initiation fee once he turns 18. Only has one rifle range with 25, 50, 75 and 100 yard stands, and one pistol range but it’s only 3 miles from my house.

Have a bunch of members stop paying dues, or at least vote out the silly *** board members that made that decision. Worst case, find a better range that appreciates ALL patriotic shooters.
What is it a driving range on off days? 50 years ago when I was dating my war department and we were watching tv in her parents den. The days of shag rugs. The power supply where the tv an vcr were plugged in. Turns on the tv and a spark jumped instantly setting the rug on fire. Had I not been there the house would’ve burned to the ground. I’m wondering if it’s true astturf do the major leagues football and baseball have an accident waiting to happen? My parents had our house carpeted with wool wall to wall they paid through the nose but didn’t care because my mom said we were safe from fire! I always get sidetracked. Take care!

Where do you live sounds similar to the Ferry Brook Range in Keene NH; though I think there’s one fee 2 or 3 with a back groud check unless you have proof of a recent gun purchase.

Does that include BP wannabes like Pyrodex, Blackhorn, etc. as well as "BP" pellets?
