.

Not sure if I can afford it by 30th auction day. But thanks for your comment. I keep buying crappy guns from sealed bid auction , broken stocks and rusty barrels but it’s nice to have a nice piece now and again , been collecting 20 years that’s why I am 80. God bless you dear boy love from across the pond, raining today .

Shoot - change your patch material or patch lube if you want even more variables!

Not a fan of Pyrodex, never got reliable targets - always laddering my shots, even carefully measuring the charge. But that's just me. More important was getting rid of the deleterious perchlorates. BP doesn't leave those.

Best as I can, I'll stick with Holy Black. Not going to fuss over what other good folks use.
Well said.

I have nothing against Pyrodex nor anyone that chooses to use it.

But as long as BP is available, this ole boy will be sticking with that. It always torches off and it cleans up nicely with just water.

If I were to use a sub, it would be 777. But it costs about as much as BP. Only difference is, subs are more easily found at local shops, no ordering or shipping necessary.

Yep, I'll be using BP for as long as possible. Besides, its fun watching the new generation get agitated at the range after I shoot and that wonderful, great smelling cloud of smoke drifts their way. Oh those nasty looks when they are flapping their arms back and forth, as if that's going to help dissipate the cloud of smoke. :)

In all honesty, I have more young folks that stroll over and enquire about my sidelocks. Most think its the coolest thing they have ever seen.

I dunno from a different rifle being.

I've shot 30-06 that couldn't group nothing but core locks. I though that gun was junk until I tried a core lock or anything cheap ammo like PMC American eagle was good.

all the high price fancy stuff I got to try no good.. in the end I was like that gun is awesome groups great with the cheap ammo.
When I was able to hunt my go to rifle was my Winchester 30/06 and Remigton core lock bullets. When I was playing around with the guys and wanted to show off I would use Hornady light mags or Winchester Surpremes. These two were tack driver. The Core Locks not so much but close enough for hunting. I now shoot only M.L.s . I sold all my center fire rifles.

used to be all for the tipped ammo ballistic accu sst slugs etc.

And now changed to hollow point.

I Think better performance wound blood trail deal with the hollow points... more so with muzzloader and Shotguns. And there accuracy is good...

Hunting wise... round ball. I don't know. Probably like a foster slug hole.. does a job...

I want another hawken style but like a black mountain magnum or something rifled for sabots..

The pedals do break off you find them stuck to the other side of the rib cage...

The slug I found the lump on the other side of the deer....

It just barely didn't exit.. that I think put all it's energy into that deer. The entrance was a good hole and vitals a mess...

Ah, yeah, no, you don't get charged shipping for each individual pound

Powder Valley.....

Goex FFg $27.99 per pound
25 lbs totals out to $759.19 with shipping and hazmat. Nowhere near $1375

If you only want a couple lbs it's $124ish to your door.

Not what it used to be for sure back in the day but be glad Goex is back in production and available.View attachment 292748

Not really sure what to say to ya there Skippy.

Go to:

https://www.powdervalley.com/product-category/muzzleloading/

Take a BIG gawking eye full of all those words on every Goex product listing that say in plain english "In Stock".

I have no idea what planet you're from, but here on mine, "in stock" means I can BUY IT.

And just in case you can't possibly believe Powder Valley, take another BIG gawking eye full of what is said here, regarding September of LAST YEAR and what showed up at Friendship:

An apology would be nice.......

I’d use any black powder I can get. I have found a few online sources, but they all have a $200 minimum order plus $25 hazmat fee plus around $30-$40 shipping fee. I’d have to spend over $250 to get powder for my deer hunt. Not reasonable. If anyone knows where I can buy a couple cans of BP, please let me know.
visit Friendship IN. at NMLRA headquarters. they sell goex, swiss for 23dol a can. and schouzten pdr.

Pyrodex does not store well once opened. Black powder will keep in definitely as long as it is kept dry. But if Pyrodex is all you can get locally and don;t want to pay the haz mat fees for small quanities user it.
Where did you hear that? I have some that was gifted me that was13 years old in an open container and it shoots fine. Black powder is expensive compared to other types of powders. I don't understand why I should pay more than I have to? The only thing I do know is some people are repeating what they have heard from someone that doesn't know themselves.

I switched to musket caps.. I like them better.

The biggest problem I have had with pyrodex is- inconsistent shot groups. I’ve had groups of 4 shot cloverleafs, then the fifth shot and sixth shot were way off. And no , it’s not me. Who wants to sight in for deer and take a chance on your actual hunting shot to be off? Not me. With one free container, my rifle would not group at all. I’m talking a foot group at 25 yards! Now for a shotgun, it may be ok to use.
