Is there any chance black powder prices will ever drop in price?

What do you think?

Should I buy now or later to restock??? :hmm:

track of the wolf just sent a notice they're raising their price....oct 1.....not a promising sign...i'd stock up!

Haven't you heard, according to another thread the world as we know it is about to end. So if I was you I would stock up!

Now do you really think it will come down. I'd stock up that is what I'm doing. I expect the little brown truck sometime next week.

I would stock up.
With the election coming and that stuff that OSHA tried to pull a few months ago.. :hmm:
It wouldn't hurt to have a good supply.
I am lucky. The Maine powder house is only a couple of hours drive from where I live.
Plan on getting a few more pounds.
You can legally have 50lbs in your possession.
when I get down to 49lb.. it's time to re-stock

Price of black powder coming down? I don't think so.

Not only is the old bugaboo of inflation always with us making our money less valuable but that same inflation causes the prices of salt peter, sulfur and charcoal to rise as well.

With the high prices some companies like Hodgdon is getting for its Pyrodex and 777 black powder generally costs less when bought from a large distributer.
In fact, I'm rather surprised that the prices of real black powder hasn't risen more than it has.

The only time prices ever come down for me, is when it is something of mine and I want to sell. Then the price always gets lower to the buyer.

Go figure.

Prices are doing nothing but going up and with the cost of fuel raising the cost of manufacture and transportation, it looks like the trend will not be stopping any time soon. I'd stock up if you can. I'm going to try and get another order in soon too. Might not be the end of the world for us black powder shooters, but keeping a good supply is a nice hedge against inflation, at least temporarily.

Maybe by BATF regs, but around here (Mass) we're limited to just a few pounds of BP due to Fire Codes, without an approved container that is.

Off-topic ... BATFE ... Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Sounds more like a neat convenience store ;) !

As others have said, the price is going UP, not down. I bought a case earlier this Spring and think I will order another one very soon as I am down to 9 lbs. left.

Ok legally I can only have 50# of BP. in my possesion. Does this mean my wife can't have her #50, and my son can't either? Is it only at that particular property or is it per individual? An inquiring mind would like to know?

Thanks guys for the replies...guess I better bite the bullet  and get a few pounds.

Thanks!

I am sure that most localities have some form of restrictions to the fire codes on explosives. I will have to give my local FD a call and find out what my restrictions are.

Ironically if you keep yer mouth shut who's gonna know what you have in your dresser drawer?

It's probably best to let sleeping dogs lie. Asking questions could lead to political discussions, and you know where that can lead.

I would think that it's
50lbs per person :hmm:
Anyway
"That's my story and I am sticking to it".
After 50lbs you need a magazine and a permit.
At least in NH.
Bedsides with all the center fire ammo I have.
The BP is just icing on the cake.

I heard that not only were the prices going up, but the size of the contianers was going down :( . Just like the Starkist tuna in the grocery store.

The ATF regs read: For recreational use, up to 50lbs may be stored in a single family dwelling without permits, special storage magazines, etc....husband, wife, doesn't matter...50lbs max.

NOTE:
Those are Federal regs...States may then add their own overrides...ie: some states you can only have 5 lbs, etc.
Each State's Fire Marshall's Office is the place to find out about your respective state.

NC goes by the fed regs...as soon as I open my last case and take a can out of it, dropping my inventory to 24 cans, I order another case and drive the amount back up to 49 lbs  .

Now, if you have other family members living in their own houses, or a close friend, etc...there you go.

I did see, in Bi-Mart this week a can of BP with a name I didnt recognize and dont remember BUT I DID note that although it was the same sized container as all the other powders were in, it said 9oz on the side VS 16oz and it was $16.00 VS the $11.94 I was paying for Pyro RS.
