I was rooting thru the garage yesterday and came across an old catch-all box of ML stuff. Considering how prices have gone lately I thought I post some pictures. I guess you'll either smile or cry.

I love these old pics & prices! The old "ah, if only!" feeling coupled with memories.

Then I remind myself:
Inflation.png

I once figured out that the first cap & ball revolver I bought used for $50 actually cost me a lower multiple of my hourly pay than the inflation-adjusted equivalent would cost me today!

That was an eye opener...

Still wish I'd bought that house I was renting then, though.

In the late 1980's , a complete set of precarved stock parts was $400. To put one together was $400. Complete finished gun was $800. With some carving , and incised decoration , + $100 = $900
Would love to see what a " sperm whale oil bottle " , looks like.

They gonna hav to change that website to hav scientific notation if things keep going the way they are.

I believe the japanese are still making some. It was actually used to lubricate the Hubble telescope in outer space. You can not legally sell it in the USA unless you can document that it is from pre 1968. Dixie sells a synthetic made from Jabola beans that looks, smells, and works like the real stuff. I'll try to get some pictures of the bottle.

GADD'S! I actually remember seeing those cans at the local sporting goods shelf,, and walking past.
It was easy to walk past, cause all I had to do was go to the counter and ask for real bp.
At that time you could still by dynamite at the hardware store with a permit from the DNR,,
Yeah, when I was a kid the local hardware store still sold dynamite too.

The much older gentleman who mentored me in my early years of muzzle loading, told me a story of buying black powder from a hardware store. He asked the clerk for a pound of black and then the clerk proceeded to retrieve a 25# keg from under the counter and weighed out a pound in a paper sack on scales. He said it cost him $.50.
