I'd like to get some mock-ivory bone ramrod tips.
Is there anyone out there currently making these?
If not, can someone recommend a DYI tutorial?
Thanks in advance.
My method was crude but I just took a fairly straight section of deer antler, drilled a 3/8" hole through it's center and epoxied it to my ram rod tip. I then sanded it down to a nice even taper. It is in reality just a sleeve or cover which disguises the brass ram rod tip so I didn't pin it. My crappy photo does it no justice.
I've had the one I made of deer antler crack (though it is still attached). I would think horn would be a much more suitable material. It certainly was used...
Look into a Billiard supply store. They usually have imitation ivory ferrules that should work quite well for what you want. They are measured in mils not inches just look at at a conversion chart to get you in the ball park for the size you need.
if ya what to do any of the work yerself ya can git an old cue ball from them also....i think it would be a little bit more durable....and look like ivory .........bob
