Hi,I just bought a bore sight for my Dixie Hawken. It is Red instead of white. It That better to see the rifling?SQUIB

I have one with a green LED. I wish it was white. I guess as long as you can see if the fouling is all gone it doesn't matter what color the light is. I never use mine anyway. When my patch comes out clean that's all the reasurance I need that my bore is clean.

That's the one you're supposed to use when showing a gun you want to sell and it has a rusty bore. :winking: Seriously, I would think that red would show things the least of all colors. On the other hand, if you are using it at night or in dim light, it won't contract your pupils.

White LEDs, especially ones with a decent coverage of the visible spectrum, are expensive compared to their red and green counterparts. If you have an electronically minded friend, it could be relatively simple (and inexpensive) to swap out the red LED for a white one.

Ok,thanks guys.I just remembered that I have a billed fishing hat with a white light on the front.I will rig that to use in the barrel. My gun is new but I need a light if I run across a good buy.Squib

I just took a piece of dowel just under bore size and glued some tin foil to it (shiny side up). I drop it down the bore and then use a mini-mag flashlight. It's bright as day in the bore with this set-up.

That's a super idea. I've used a mini Maglite, but it's hard to look down around it. Sometimes felt like getting one of the doctor's mirrors with the holei in the center.

One guy showed me a barrel by dropping a tiny but powerful blue flashlight down the bore. I think it took half an hour for my vision to clear.

:shake: :shake: :shake:
What you have purchased is a "bore light" and not a "bore sight".

A bore sight allows you to adjust a scope or sights without shooting the gun. It has nothing to do with looking down the bore.
