I found a Lyman Trade Rifle .50 cal online. I'd like to have it bored out to .54 smoothy. Unfortunately, it's drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Can it still be done? Thanks

Possibly. It really depends on the depth of the screw holes and the thickness of barrel material remaining after the re-bore. If the smooth bore is no larger than the groove diameter of the current barrel, there should be no problem. If you want to go to the full .54" bore diameter, you should consult with whoever you want to do the work.

What's the width of your barrel across the flats? How deep are the holes that were D&T'd for the scope mount? Is the rear sight mounted in a dovetail or was it attched with screws? If the latter, how deep are thase holes? If dovetailed, how deep is the dovetail groove? Thousandth's of an inch matter here!
