Thinking of having .50 pedersoli flintlock frontier bored to smooth bore. Really don't have the money for a new trade gun. Any thoughts? Could it be bored to 28 ga. size.

By all means do it if you want.

Bobby Hoyt is the man you want to talk to.

Many “rifles” of the period were not rifled at all, and were smoothbored yet featured rifle architecture and rifle sights. A 28 gauge (.54 caliber) will provide great versatility with round ball and will be useful for small game with shot. If you’re planning to do lots of wing shooting a bit larger bore may be better but some do it with 28 gauges.

Hello,

Have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

Is this going to be the original barrel and do you have another?

What condition is the barrel?

I have seen used barrels for sale on eBay and Amazon "cheap".

In fact I have purchased several of them though I don't work with or on Perdersoli products and haven't owned on since the 80's.

I only "Smith" my own but if I was in your situation and my original barrel was in good condition I would look for an unloved barrel in good but less than perfect condition to be bored and save the original.

It's the original in good shape but I have other muzzleloader rifles if I need one
