Hey fellers, made this after Miss Tudy saw in one of our reference books. After looking it up I found that the name meant Longhunter or Trapper in Dutch. It was meant to be carried in a bag, instead of in sash...
The handle is Osage with a copper ferrule and antiqued blade. Miss Tudy made the sheath and greased it up with some of her concoction.
We thank y'all for looking, Bud & Miss Tudy

Bosch: Dutch for " bush".

Loper: One who Lopes( a running gait).

Translation, One who runs in the bush( woods). That would include longhunters, and trappers.

Its hard to get a good idea on the size of this knife, and sheath, but I like the idea. That straight edge is easier to maintain with a razor edge, than any curved blade. It would make a great patch knife, IMHO. Since we can't see the back side of the sheath, I don't know how well it can be kept on a belt. Without some kind of loop, it would have to be stored in a hunting pouch, or held to the body with a broad sash.

Very nice work, as we have all come to expect! Thank you for sharing this with us, here. :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Thanks fellas.
This knife is about 8" long with 4 3/4" blade and has no belt loop. According to the book I have it wasn't meant to have a loop of any kind and was to be carried in a hunting bag and maybe under a sash. Just felt like making something a little different.

Very nice job Bud and Miss Tudy! Sure love looking at your work. Thank you for sharing.

That would be like a courreur de bois with maybe wooden moccasins and no French "hack scent" :haha:

Nice one! I do like the way the brass compliments the Hedgeapple wood's color. Just an observation.

I have one and it came with a paper saying it was history correct. Dutch. The man was here in Ohio from New York at a Rendezvous( Great Trails) haven't seen him since. I paid 10.00 for it in the 80's. The shape of the blade is made to eat out of a bowl, was what he said. It has a stamp on it(three sheep brand). I carry it in my cooking bag. I made a sheath for it and can use it for a neck knife. I like it. Dilly
