Another conundrum (I am following advice from many on full cock) with respect to my new J Brown smoothbore. Never fired, if I run a wiping stick (range rod) with jag (any cal from 45 to 62) down the bore. at the bottom of bore there seems to be an expanded space that causes the bare jag to hang up. needs to be jiggled about to release and move back up. It's almost as if there was two different dimensions to the inner bore for about 3/4 in. at the bottom. Could this have anything to do with the mating of the barrel and breechplug? Any thoughts appreciated, Ron the puzzled in FL

Are you hitting the vent liner?

It could be sticking out a little inside of the barrel.

Good thought, I have seen them stick out...but this smoothie has no vent liner, just a hole in the barrel, and the expansion seems to be all the way round the barrel interior down there. I can't SEE what's up, and don't want to try disassembling the gun and debreeching the barrel, don't have a vise, for example, nor any experience. Ron in FL

I would find someone that does then. Sounds sort of odd to me.

I was going to say possibly an over-torqued breech plug, but that would more than likely only happen with a patent breech. Your opinion sounds more likely.

It's going to be debreeched by somebody who knows what's what. Thanks for all the help from the fantastic forum, Ron

If it's new and under some sort of warranty, I'd contact the builder/seller and let him deal with it

Billy, a good suggestion, but the barrel (and gun) is on its way to somebody else for the fix.
Good smoke, Ron in FL
