I swear to God! This was the first time I clicked on Auction Arms.com to window-shop since I bought my last "not-so" Excellent Condition 54 Renegade around 2-1/2 months ago for $150.

The 54 arrived with a homemade wedge pin that was 1-1/2" too long. It had a broken lock assembly & a badly worn double-set trigger assembly that fired if I took a real deep breath & blew real hard on the front trigger. Anyways everything worked out when T/C Inc. replaced both free. I ended-up buying a 58-cal Green Mountain 1-70" twist for that Renegade.

The one today was $131. It is a single trigger Renegade Hunter 50 that supposedly in very good condition & supposely has only has a few small scratches on the stock & a real need for a good bath on the barrel exterior.... whatever that means? I've got my fingers crossed that a need for a bath is not a need for rust removal. The barrel picture/photo there at Auction Arms.com is only one-sided. I don't see any rust.

We'll see in about a week how "screwed-up" this rifle is..... what his definition is of "very good condition". I think I'm going to get a 1-30" twist 45-cal Green Mountain barrel for it this time. I've accumulated a couple hundred various 40-cal sabot/bullets & they load too tight in my other two sabot rifles.

So maybe in another 14-21 days, I will likely have two Renegade barrels for sale. One is a 50-cal ... the other a 54 with scope, mount & rings. Both are 1-48 twisters. Will give out more details as soon as I order the new GM barrel.

Triple Se7en: I sure hope your comment "& a real need for a good bath on the barrel exterior.... whatever that means? " doesn't mean the bore is so plugged, the seller didn't even know it was there.

Your a braver man than I am. Good Luck to you and let us know how good it really is.

The same kind of rifle you bought an old friend of mine has one. A .50 caliber Renegade with the single trigger. It was a nice shooting rifle to be honest. We were shooting sabots out of it back when sabots were unheard of. And that rifle was really doing a great job shooting them. I hope the rifle is in good shape. Even if not, at least you have the start for the GMB.

I have been at TOTW's site looking at those IBS barrels. I am kind of leaning towards a .40 caliber with that 38" barrel. I think that would be a real good shooter. I see no reason why if loaded down it would not make a good small game rifle.

I will be waiting for you rifle report. ::

So! It was YOU bidding on that Renegade. I almost went for it myself, but fought the addiction and didn't bid. I'm glad you got it as it looks pretty good.

Renegades rock! I just got my new Green Mountain 32" barrel in .40 and I'm glad I didn't go for the 38" as this puppy is heavy! By itself it weighs just under 7 1/2 lbs - a full 2 lbs more than the standard .50 caliber barrel that comes on the Renegade. Can't wait to take it and my new .58 to the range... what a great combination!

To be honest Maxi... I really never actively bidded during that session.. or never realized I did!

This was the first time I used the secret maximum bid option. Several hours before bidding closed, I put in a $143 maximum bid while two other bidders kept out-bidding each other by a measely $2. The bid at the time was about $120.

I then left for my father-in-law's funeral & reception & when I returned last evening, I saw there was an "automated bidder" that will always keep me $2 ahead of everyone else until my $143 runs out of funds.

I may use that "hidden bank account/active credit card" more often.... like maybe in 2008 when I get real stupid again & tell myself I need another gun.

I was storing that Auction Arms webpage in my Favorites Folder. My wallet is telling me to delete it. I'm surprised my wife hasn't already! I'll tell ya' what though! I may change my mind about ownin' this gun... may have already... even if it's in good shape. I made a "spur of the moment" decision to bid... now I dunno anymore. I'll save the box & if I do decide to sell, I'll let you be the first to own it for the $131+15shipping=$146. I'll inspect if first -- even shoot it 10-15 times & email you if it's in good shape... maybe even give you a choice of my 54 barrel or the 50.

Cayugad

I haven't hunted small game in several years. The only other caliber that might interest me is one that's rifled bigger than a 58. If I had my choice, I'd love to have TOTW offer a 1-80" twist 72-caliber with a 28" barrel. Recoil only bothers me if it literally knocks me on my azz'...lol.

See Ya' Boys probably Tuesday! About to leave for a fishing, horeshoe, golfing, shooting & poker tournament in Mecosta Michigan this weekend. Annual event... about 40-50 guys with 40-50 cases of beer & 40-50 bottles of booze that don't leave the 40 acres except to fish or drive to breakfast.

Well... got the complete rifle & was pleasantly surprised how well the stock looked -- how well the lock assembly & trigger worked. Both the lock & trigger look relatively new for a rifle that's been shot around 2500 times (based on 3000 round life expectancy). I suspect both were replaced with in the not-too-distant past. The wood is in very good shape... only a couple very minor - very small blemishes/barely noticeable scratches.

Ok... now for the bad news! I think those 2500 shots were fired in Iraq...lol! That bore looked like a bomb went off in it when it arrived. Leftover spent grains of Triple Seven were hanging around the muzzle. The rifle was obviously fired with magnum powder charges & not cleaned prior to shipping. The nipple was also clogged.... I mean hardened crud that was seized shut. No safety pin in the world would go through it.

After a robust cleaning, light rust remained inside a bore that looked like Mt. St Helens after the smoke cleared on that fateful day in the 1980s. I would guess that even though the barrel remains accurate with Ballets/75 grains, it may have only 500 accurate rounds left in her. The blueing looks like a severe thunderstorm sky when swirly clouds turn blackish & grayish. It's got a few scratches underneath... hidden with the stock on.

I am going to throw this "drilled & tapped" 50-cal barrel as a free item for anyone that wants to purchase my recently auction-purchased 54 cal Renegade barrel that's in good condition (1500 rounds approximently). The 54 barrel is also drilled & tapped with a scope mount attached. I'm selling both for $100 shipped to your door... provided the shipping cost does not exceed $15. So there you go... only $85 bucks going in my pocket. I have replaced the 54 with a 58-cal. Soon, I'll be replacing the 50 cal with a "I Don't Know Yet Which One" barrel. Private email me if you want em'... first come-first serve.

Wal, Ah guess we kno what "It is a single trigger Renegade Hunter 50 that supposedly in very good condition & supposely has only has a few small scratches on the stock & a real need for a good bath on the barrel exterior.... whatever that means? " means now.

Sorry the bore is not in "very good condition", but it doesn't suprise me.
Nothing against auctions, but I've seen enough really crappy guns at the local gun shows complete with the owner standing there looking me right in the eye and telling about what a wonderful buy it is to believe someone I can't even see is really giving me an honest discription.

Strangely enough, I trust you guys on this web site, but someone on Hebay or Sell-your-junk-Auction? never.

On the other hand, for the price you paid, you probably got a fair deal.

"Strangely enough, I trust you guys on this web site, but someone on Hebay or Sell-your-junk-Auction? never."
Now Zonie, some of us on this sight also sell on that "Sell yer junk auction". Me for instance. I have bought a lot of BP guns the past couple years on auctions, and for the most part, they were as described. There were a couple exceptions, but most of the people selling BP guns on auctions are honest folks. I just started selling on the auction last month.

There are some unscruplous sellers around, and I've been burned twice, so now my rule of thumb is:
If a seller won't guarantee in writing he'll honor a 3 day inspection / return / refund, then I won't buy from him.

When I post something for sale like the items I have on this board right now, I state right in the post there's a 3 day return guarantee...so worse case, the only buyer's risk is a few dollars shipping...and the beauty of that approach of course is that I must state the condition accurately or I'll get it right back...so it's a win-win for everybody.

I don't feel I was burned because I was only interested in the stock, lock & trigger trio to put another barrel on it. The 54 cal barrel is in good shape. I think it-alone is a good deal for someone that's want's a 54-cal T/C barrel that drilled, tapped, scope base with rings. Even the fair-shape 50 cal would last 10 years to a typical shooter who fires 50 rounds every year. That ones drilled & tapped too. I'll put in a few classified bp/ml forums across the country. It'll sell eventually.

If I didn't have to go worry about going through all the Canada Customs and registration BS I'd say "sold", Triple Se7en. I've been thinking about a .54cal rifle, and I've also been thinking about a spare "hunting" barrel that I won't have to worry about taking up into a tree stand. Oh well, I'll just have to dream some more... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
