Yeah, blowing down the barrel has been done a very long time and it's sort of traditional with older hunters and shooters still, here and in the old country. The video is rather entertaining and I loved the fact that some of them were trying to look the part as well. The 'snake' type shot bag with the "Irish" type scoop was indeed interesting, there's even a version that was a double type with one shot side and one powder side with the different type scoops required by both versions, powder & shot...or at least there was one available recently. I'd have to check to see if that style is still listed anywhere.

Especially liked the comment from the 'hunt master', or whatever they called him, that went, "...more shots than birds in the bag". Absolutely true with muzzleloading and even more frustratingly true, even with modern shotguns, when chasing doves!! :shocked2: Enjoyable video none the less, especially with England's restrictive gun laws. I give it a !

Personally, I was a bit disturbed that some or most of the shooters were walking around with the guns at full-cock (though the shootmaster did later say that he only came to full-cock when a bird flushed). There also didn't appear to be much emphasis on the dogs or the points, I think they only showed one point in the video.

I didn't watch the whole thing but what I saw was a hoot. Looked like a lot of fun. Only in England would guys go hunting wearing suits and ties. The gun handling looked safe to me. The full cock carry does not bother me. After all, a modern gun with safety off is same thing. The real safety is the handler.

Lots of safety going on there ,without being spoken of ,this all takes place in a shooters brief before starting , are there caps on those nipples on the doubles with the hammers at full cock ? shots are taken in turn and it is not a free for all . :)

European hunts are more regulated than our versions, and that's a fact...and probably for a good reason. They've had a couple more centuries of seeing what carelessness and black powder can do!
