I live in ohio now but grew up in tenn. Most of my family is stiil there. Two yrs ago my brother bought a deer creek 32 cal side slapper kit and replaced it with a GM 45 cal barrel and ended up with a light and accurate deer rifle for my 12 yr old nephew.I asked him for the original 32 cal barrel wich I made a neat little mini Tenn rifle out of for him to shoot squirrels and whatever with.Well to beat the holiday rush and ship his X-mas present a bit early.I went to UPS and they would not except my package and said they could no longer ship BP guns to tenn. After calling my brother he told my he cant even get a lock sent to him any longer. He said it happened so quick he nor nobody he knew had any idea it was happening. Not only fully made rifle but kits, and building a rifle from scratch without a serial # was a serious crime.I admit I know very little about how law making or changing works but I am concerned about this.As far as I know in ohio there are know regulations but from experiance especially with gun laws if one state gets away with it they all want to do it.I love building rifles.Im 44 yrs old and Im just getting kinda good at it(although slow).I recon the reason I am writin this right now is to ask if anyone knows where a person needs to go to stay informed about existing laws and intended laws, and are these BP laws state aor federal.I just dont understand how they are doing this and what we can do to stop it.If this dont get stopped soon it will turn into an epidemick. Before we know it this site will be illegal, our guns banned and all guns registered then destoyed.

I believe Dixie Gun Works is located in UnionCity,Tenn. I am curious what affect this has had on them doing business.

I'm just guessing along with the rest of you, but this sounds like a State law.
I have not heard anything about any new Federal laws dealing with shipping either regular guns or black powder guns.

As far as the Federal laws go, the last I heard they specifically excluded muzzleloading arms whether they were original or newly made.

Point of fact is no one except a Federally licensed person can work on any modern firearm except his own. That is the reason there are not more hobby type modern firearms around.

Federal regulations on Muzzloaders on the other hand permit them to be made by anyone and do not require serialization.
If you make them to sell, it is my understanding that Federal Excise taxes do apply to muzzleloaders though.

It would be interesting to hear from someone in Tennessee to find out if they have some new law on their books? ::

That soounds like some UPS manure. They've been getting harder to ship with the last few years. FedX isn't much better. I ship through the post Office all the time with ML's and modern firearms, and have had my best luck with them.
Tenn. may have passed a law about it, but I doubt it. A search of state laws on Google should answer the quaestion.
I know it isn't federal, as I get all the notifications as a 03 licensee of changes from BATF, and there has been nothing about any of this.

Gawd, no. We've seen what happened there and are trying to stop the same from occuring here.

Found this on a website for Savage Arms.

Notice: The sale of all black powder firearms and ammunition is regulated by law in the following areas: Michigan, Illinois, California, Hawaii, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico. Shipping is either illegal or requires some type of license or document exchange. In either case, we do not ship blackpowder firearms to these areas. Check your local and state laws before ordering.

Wonder what they are talking about in regards to ammunition? Do they mean roundballs, patches and/or black powder? Or are they talking about ammunition unrelated to black powder firearms?
hmmmm

I believe that you will find that these are individual restrictions on the part of a manufacturer or shipper, not law.

TN often penilizes shippers or mfgs if they break local or federal laws by resatricting their access (not allowing them to do business in the state).

I have checked with two mfg sites and find no change in state laws.

Dixie is still up and running.

Don't the Liberal Stalinists argue that the 2nd means only black powder muskets?

They even won't allow that. They are so in fear of armed serfs that they would like to ban the serfs! :curse:

Dispicable.

UPS states they will ship any firearm with a design or built to resemble a design that pre 1930 something. however many of their vendor stations are not allowed to take any firearm and you must take your package to a UPS distribution point .
I just went through this with UPS after years of shipping with them . I called the head office and they told me that if I had any more problems to get the persons name , give them a call and they would set them strait .
