I brought this up a couple years ago, now cant find my original post agin. I moved a couple years ago. I was in the midst of makin a new barrel for my SF Hawken. Somewhere in the move it come up missin. I tore all the storage apart and couldnt find it. This mornin while I was framin in a new wall, I closed a door to a spare room and there that sucker was standin in the corner.

I had ordered a breechplug from Track when I got the barrel, (fast twist .54) but it werent right. It looked like a clump a slag when it came, wasnt what I had in mind.

Anybody know who might have a good breechplug that would fit that Santa Fe? I am looking for one that is ready to screw in and breech. If I gotta go do all the shaping on it, I would just make that myself. What I want the end result to be is to be able to pull the RB barrel and drop in the bullet barrel and go, in case I feel the need to utilize the Great Plains Bullets or Ballettes or the like for invasion by aliens or somethin.

Somebody at the time told me that he wasnt too far from here, (Soccoro?) and would breech that bugger for a reasonable price, now that I have the barrel back in hand, I cant find the thread.

I cant remember who made that SF in the first place, maybe Uberti? I had tried to contact whoever it were and they didnt have no parts available at that time. Have they started makin that Santa Fe Hawken again, does anybody know? If I culd just get the right plug, then it would drop in and fit the tang right.

Bill,

Try Dennis McCandles in Las Cruces at 505-382-1978. Dennis does fine work. He used to work for the old Sharon company. last time I was in his shop was about a year and a half ago. He was working on a short 8 bore english game rifle. He'll mill out anything you want.

Thanks Sean,

That is who it was. I just couldnt find the link. I have the barrel, I have the slow twist barrel as a pattern, it aint brain surgery, ya know, to do it. My problem is that my lathe and mill are still in storage as I dont have a place to set up my shop here. Sucks. It wouldnt take much to do it other than to find the right plug. Track has some stuff in their catalog, I need to go measure the old one and then call them guys and hold somebodys ear to the horn till I get some straight answers. I still got a twist in my shorts from that slaggy plug they sent me the first time.

I'll give him a ring and see what he says. Dang that is a long drive over there. I would want to take everything over there so it would fit, and talk to him. Probably just pitch a tent and stay till it was done and bring it back. :rotf: He used to be on the forum here.

Thanks again Sean,

Bill
