I'm looking to put together a period field cleaning kit for my Bess. I'm not sure what accesories would have been carried by a Brit line infantryman circa 1779-83. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would think the Sargent would carry the worm and turnscrew for several men.

I would add some tow and some sweet oil in a brass container -- also carried by the sergeant.

A pouch of brick dust and more sweet oil (olive oil) would also be correct as this was how the shine was maintained. Rags to buff would be picked up where available.

Here's a group's website that does Brit Light Infantry, they have a well done site.

Hey! Thanks for the responses. Over the weekend I ran across an unnamed "Company store" that was built in 1890 and scheduled for demolition. (sadly enough) I was able to procure a few bricks for brick dust (and my fiances garden). What would you guys suggest as far as a way to transport the brick dust? Thanks

I should have checked that link first! Thanks anyway. All of my questions have been answered!
