I was putting the bayonet on my Pedersoli Bess today and I guess I must have had my wheaties because in the course of putting the bayonet on, I somehow sheared the bayonet lug off the top of the barrel. Since I am a reenactor, I need to be able to put the bayonet on. I am thinking that a simple soldering job should fix the problem, but I wonder if anyone out there has had this problem and fixed it.

Thanks

I think that was your problem--it was a "simple soldering job" originally and could not take the stress of the bayonet without shearing off. I would look into having someone (who knows what they are doing) silver solder it on. If done right, it won't come off.

I've done the same thing myself with the Narragansett Arms Brown Bess. It can be soldered back on by a gunsmith or you can do it yourself with products that Brownells sells.

If you have experience in soldering, Swampman is right, use Brownell's SILVALOY and the flux they sell for it.
