Hi,
I am thinking of finishing my traditional muzzleloader with the Plum Brown finish (that you apply to a hot barrel). I am wondering what you do to the inside of the barrel if you choose that treatment. Do you apply some of the browning fluid to the inside while hot, or not do anything and keep it clean and oiled when stored? Any thoughts or experience? Thanks!

Plug the end of the barrel and the nipple hole or vent hole before appling any of the solution. You DO NOT want any in the barrel.

I browned the barrel of my flintlock with the Plum Brown kit. First time user, followed the directions to the letter. Applied 3 coats, got EXCELLENT results. Was quite pleased with myself. Oh, yeah, stuck wood plugs in holes to keep juice out of barrel. Gotta say, the brown looks a LOT better than the blue on my percussion gun. :RO:

I've used Plum Brown a couple of times with pretty good results. Be sure to get the metal clean of all oils etc. I used rubbing alcohol and acetone both. Put the muzzle end lower than the breech end so that the stuff doesn't run back into the bore. :results:
