I just picked up an un-fired 50 cal Joseph Browning commemorative mountain rifle in the wooden case with booklet, case keys, cleaning jag, powder horn and etc for $200. It was stored in a gentleman's fathers house somewhere and apparently moisture got to it. It has some surface rust on the barrel which is cleaning off and I'm sure I can re-brown it. There is no bad corrosion in the lock which I opened up, cleaned out and lubed and the single set trigger works fine. The bore is perfect. For some strange reason the escutcheon plates an screws took the worst of it and are badly pitted. Original Browning replacement parts don't seem to exist anymore. The escutcheon plates on the Lyman Great Plains look to be very close to matching and are available, but since I don't have one of those to measure I can't be sure. Can anyone out there who owns a Lyman, measure the plates on their rifle (length and width and pin holes and pins possibly) and forward that info to me so that I can compare? I would be in you debt! The only other issue is that the clean out screw next to the nipple is stuck and the slot is messed up, but I'm sure it can be drilled, easy outed, and replaced. Otherwise the wooden stock and iron hardware look great. Thanks all!
