Starting my first build/rebuild...I am converting a old cva/jukar to flint, restocking it, and here is the question....the barrel has an extremely faded blue...do I need to somehow remove the faded bluing before using laurel mountain forge browning solution or just brown over it???

I believe that you will have to sand off the faded blueing down to bare metal and in the process you will be "roughing" up the surface of the barrel in order for the browing to work. Don't go any finer than 220 grit sandpaper. Remember to sand using a sanding block and sand the length of the barrel and not cross-wise.

Then, follow the instructions given on this forum and on the bottle of LMF Browning solution and you should have a very nice browned barrel when finished.

Toilet bowl cleaner removes bluing (and browning) like magic, but you'll still have to sand to get an nice even color.
