I know they make a cold bluing for touching up scratches etc on blued guns. Is their anything similiar available for browned barrels?? My long rifle has got a few scrapes and knocks that I wouldn't mind touching up a bit if I could find something that will match reasonably well.

You could try Birchwood Casey Plum Brown.
This needs the area to be totally free of all oil/wax/grease to work.

To use it, you must heat the area to 265-290 degrees F and apply it with a cotton swab. It will instantly brown the bare metal. Wash the residue off using water. Then reoil the surface.

This is somewhat a PITA for a little scratch but it should work.
Myself, I just touch up tiny scratches with the Cold Blue solutions made for blued guns. IMO, if the scratch is black/blue it will blend in with the rest of the barrel/lock/etc well enough that no one will notice it.

Zonie :)

Thanks Zonie I'll give the cold blue a try as I don't really want to unpin the barrel for a minor cosmetic improvement.

I'm currently touching up some scratches on my browned gun with Laurel Mountain Forge solution. I used a q-tip and lightly touched the scratches. It is currently in my bathroom rusting.

O.K. I give up. What's Laurel Mountain Forge Solution, where do you get it, and what is involved in using it??

Sorry it's full name is Laurel Mountain Forge Barrel Brown and Degreaser. Here is a link to it and where you can get it.

Link to Laurel Mountain Forge Barrel Brown and Degreaser. :hatsoff:

If you get it, read the instructions carefully. What you don't want to do is put too much on. It will cause it to turn black and you'll have to start over. Just a very slight wipe "ONCE" with a moist not wet cloth is all you need per coat. Works well. :hatsoff:

Whatever you do, don't go back and "Rewipe" a spot because it looks like its got less on it. All it will do is wipe off what went on first and create a big uneven mess.
Make one clean swipe the first time and let it rust.

I didn't care for the LMF stuff, way too slow for me. I like something that'll brown a barrel or whatever NOW, not 3 or 4 days from now. If you've got the time to wait then it may be ok but for my money Plum Brown is the ONLY way to go.
