I ordered a pair of buckskins and they fit ok at first but after one rendezvous they will now fall off if I dont have my belt on. I dont like suspenders and I was wondering if I got them taken in would they just tretchout again? Thanks for the help.

chance,

Buckskin will stretch, to a point, then they should stay up but you may have to put a new seam into them.

btw, when i ordered a pair of leggins they came so loose i couldnt wear them. So, i actually had them sewn while wearing them, and sewn Tight :shocked2: and they stretched out to a nice&snug fit.
good luck

It sounds like the maker didn't pre-stretch the leather prior to making the pants. I made this mistake on my first pair of leather leggings. They stretched several inches by the end of the day.

I wouldn't have the pants altered until you are sure that they have completely stretched. You can wet the pants and stretch them until they are completely dry. Good luck.

Get yourself some leg ties. They tie just above one's calf and just below the knee. It takes all the pressure off one's belt and keeps the leather pants in the correct position all day. It should help with the stretch thing too. Otherwise just wait till it rains. The leather will tighten up quite alot when drying out.

Regards

It may come as a total surprise to some " skinners", but you do smell alot better if those buckskins get washed every couple of years or three :shocked2: :nono: , and washing actually helps the leather last longer. The side benefit- I wash mine in the tub using Woolite-- is that they shrink up a bit when they dry. Try that first before having a new seam made.

Thanks I will try all the advice. I always wondered why some guys had those ties now I know. Thanks.

One thing that may help is to sew a strip of canvas inside the waist band. This stabilizes that part of the pants but won't help with the legs stretching.
