bullets for lgp 1-32 twist

I have a Lyman great plains. The barrel is a 1-32 twist. What bullets should I shoot through it. Would conicals work best for long range shooting. what brand? what weight? Thanks for your reply. Im new to ml.

Believe all Lyman Great Plains Rifles were 1-66.

Mine came with that but I also bought a barrel that has the 1-32. I just want to find a bullet to fit the 1-32

Ah frankie, you should know you can't talk about those unmentionable bullets that will work just fine in the 1-32!
come to think, maybe we can talk about them. hard to keep up with the taboo's.
bet they would work well in the 1-66 too

I think he wants to shoot lead conicals which are fine to discuss.

I'll mention two that have worked well for me the Hornady Great Plains and the Buffalo Bullet conicals, not sure if the latter are still made. Lyman makes molds for their plains bullets.

Two members here Idaho Ron and Idaho Lewis do some impressive long range shooting/hunting with lead bullets, search their threads.

Thanks Mad Professor. Yip I'm wanting to shoot my great plains Hawkens just at some long range shooting. 400 to 500 yards, not (that long range of 500 or more). I'm wanting to stay traditional muzzleloaders. I just started in this forum in January and trying to figure the rules and my way around. Im still learning the terminologies of parts of the rifle, and all that goes with it. Now two of my sons are taking a look at muzzleloading.

TC maxi-balls, Lee r.e.a.l. bullets, and Lyman/Hornady Plains bullets are all good ones.

And though it's only semantics, the Great Plains 'Rifle' is roundball twist while the fast twist is the Great Plains 'Hunter'.

@frankie, do a search on the Forum for paper patched bullets. These should work very well in your 1 in 32 barrel. It will take some load development to get the bullet diameter and paper thickness with a compatible lubricant. Keep at it and you will be rewarded with good results.

50 caliber and a 1 in 32 twist. Im swapping it out from a 50 caliber 1-60 twist on my Lyman Great plains. I just wanted to do some 200 to 400 yard shots. Im a newbie to muzzleloaders and am just trying different things. I just dont know the best type and weight of bullets to get. Thanks nkbj
