I would like to go bunny hunting with my muzzleloader. I only have a 54cal so I was wondering what powder charge you reccomend? I am going to use the hide so I think after Christmas when January comes the critters that live on the rabbits will be gone. What do you think?

You will have to make head shots to have anything left. I have used 50g of 2f in my .50 for short range target work. It sounds like a good reason to look for a another rifle though.

"so I think after Christmas when January comes the critters that live on the rabbits will be gone. What do you think? " buy alot of dogfood, cheetos, roasted chicken, etc, leave the tv on the animal cop show and they can hang out in your basement.. otherwise theyl still be out there after the bunnys.. i used to rabit hunt alot when i was a kid in iowa.. go arrund old farm buildings and piles of wood.. not so much stacks of cord wood but big bunches of sticks or boards.. give the pile of wood a big kick down and make alot of noise.. if there is one in there hell take off for the next hidding place, be ready hell be going full speed.. great fun.. if you use that rifle youll become an exccelent shot, there will not be a whitetail alive that can survive your wrath at close range if you get good at it.. hunt them in the heavyest brush and they will come busting out just like the rabbits, giving you just a couple seconds for a shot.... dave

I use either of my 32's, or if I think the shots will be longer one of my 36's.

Maybe you could shoot those 54 RB's with a sling shot. :winking:

Fun, fun, fun. I use 42 gr FFFg (which happens to be how much an empty .45 Long Colt case holds). I try to find them holding and aim for the black, beady eye. The good news is that my rifle(s) are sighted about 2-1/2" high at 50 yards with my 2X heavier deer loads, but paste dead on at about 20 yards with this "squib" load. Like it was meant to be. Both of my .54s and my .50 do this. Life is good.
