Plain knives fit my persona and my personal inclinations, so I built a cheap CVA butcher knife kit a lot of years ago. This thing has done everything I've asked of it, has dressed at least 15 deer, 3 javelinas and dozens of squirrels, rabbits and doves, it holds an edge better than any other blade I have ever owned, and it seems indestructible. I didn't like the sheath included in the kit, so I made one of rawhide to go over it. Rawhide is very versatile stuff. You can just wet it, mold it into any shape, let it dry and it is there for keeps. Tough as iron, too. I carry the knife in my belt/sash and tie it in place with the thongs. The style of this knife is very similar to that carried by George Rogers Clark in the Rev, War.
