Mineral oil is petroleum based. Most people say not to use petroleum based products for patch lube. You decide what's best for youSo my wife was just conditioning our block and I happen to pick up the bottle to read it. It is mineral oil and bees wax. Has anyone ever tried this as a patch lube?
Ballistol is food grade mineral oil just like what he asked about in his post and half of everyone on this forum uses it for patch lube.Mineral oil is petroleum based. Most people say not to use petroleum based products for patch lube. You decide what's best for you
I am using Ballistol/water lube now but thought I’d try this for when I leave the gun loaded in fall for a whileBallistol is mineral oil and half of everyone on this forum uses it for patch lube.
I use several concoctions for patch lube for targets. Spit, windshield washer fluid or moose milk. For hunting I use mink oil for when I leave it loaded for weeks at a time.I am using Ballistol/water lube now but thought I’d try this for when I leave the gun loaded in fall for a while
do you notice a difference in accuracy between the mink oil and your other target lubes?I use several concoctions for patch lube for targets. Spit, windshield washer fluid or moose milk. For hunting I use mink oil for when I leave it loaded for weeks at a time.
Not enough to be worrisome for hunting distances. An inch or so difference in any direction isn’t detrimental for hunting. If I’m shooting at a deer the buck fever gets me more than an inch difference in patch lubes lol.do you notice a difference in accuracy between the mink oil and your other target lubes?
Ok. Good to know, I get the shakes no matter what the sex is. LolNot enough to be worrisome for hunting distances. An inch or so difference in any direction isn’t detrimental for hunting. If I’m shooting at a deer the buck fever gets me more than an inch difference in patch lubes lol.
Vaseline is petroleum based, and some people put it on their babies. In fact, you'd be surprised how many products contain petroleum.Mineral oil is petroleum based. Most people say not to use petroleum based products for patch lube. You decide what's best for you
At least deer know what sex they are. They have two sexes where we have, what is it, 7000+ possible sexes and counting?Ok. Good to know, I get the shakes no matter what the sex is. Lol
Half use petroleum products, which leaves half that don't. Like I said, it is for him to decideBallistol is food grade mineral oil just like what he asked about in his post and half of everyone on this forum uses it for patch lube.

Yes iv been using it works okSo my wife was just conditioning our block and I happen to pick up the bottle to read it. It is mineral oil and bees wax. Has anyone ever tried this as a patch lube?
Good info. I'm gonna give it a shotYes, I have used the Howard's butcherblock oil on patches. Works fine. I regard the 'no petroleum' rule as nonsense.
The block oil has a couple of benefits. It tastes better than ballistol - I like to wet patches or hold them in my mouth when loading - and should be safe 'food grade'.
It didn't go rancid or get moldy in the jar of patches the way some other things do.
