Welcome from AZ.

Per your avatar you should start at a min caliber of .54. The rest will be based on personal preference, marriage status (aka access to fun money), etc. Custom or Production? Flint or Percussion?

More info and we give ya more answers!

Another Texas welcome! And if you watch the 'for sale' section, sooner or later just what you want will be offered up.
And on the rest of the forum all your questions get answers, your ills get cured, your dreams get interpreted, and your relationship problems resolved (or compounded after a few gun purchases).

Hello, my name is Colt. I've been doing BP since back in the late 80's. I laid off for a few years and am now getting back into it. I've found a BP rifle on this site that I want. Have been PM - ing the guy on a deal and am ready to trip the trigger on it. But his avatar site (per this forum) says he's new to this site and it could be a scam. As I am also new to this site, and have never purchased a ML in this fashion I'm wondering if there is a way people on this site make sure someone is legit and or if other people know this person. With out offending any one. Can you help?

It is good to be skeptical of .32 Cal posters in the want ad section. I will search their other posts to see if they seem legit. PM them about payment methods, if paypal or venmo and you have those accounts, you can look up their seller history.

THAT is a question I've often wondered myself.
Many times a seller may also sell on another forum under the same username. Or even on Ebay.
That helps when they do not have a lot of posts here.

Also, have they recently sold something similar to a member with more than a low number of posts?
I've seen some forums where it was found out two members buying and selling back and forth were actually the same member! That forum used the feedback feature xen-foro has. So an older member's feedback, one who has been around a while and even spoke of his purchase, their feedback would be helpful.

But it's still a gamble IMO.

Yeah they want money order. And when I asked him about shipping and insurance costs via USPS at 7:30 p.m. last he came up with costs. Red flag to me then said he'd drop costs to just an even $50.00. Another red flag to me. But I'm always suspicious.

50 bucks to ship a rifle is dirt cheap these days.

Sounds like you might want to visit a muzzleloading website that sells guns.

No reason to be suspicious with Traditions or Pedersoli or Midway USA or Track of the Wolf. Etc.

You’re right to be cautious. There’s no way to really protect yourself and personally I wouldn’t buy a gun from someone with no track record. You gotta trust your gut feelings and walk away if it doesn’t seem right.
