The last few horns I made, I got from a local slaughterhouse. I stopped in and talked with the manager of the slaughterhouse. I told him what I wanted the horns for and we made a trade. He had a few workers who hunted and another who was a history buff. He allowed me to pick a few horns and I made a few basic horns for his guy’s. They were extremely happy with the gift and the manger told me I was welcome back anytime, just check in with him.

I plan to stop by next month, because I will have two horns ready for his crew. If he allows me, I will get a dozen horns or so and post some pictures for you guys to choose a horn. Just pay the shipping cost and I will mail you a nice horn to work on. I will keep you guy’s posted if I get the horns, and I will post some photos if you are interested in getting a really nice raw horn to work on for the price of shipping.

I will remove the insides of the horn because I don’t think the USPP service would appreciate the smell.

Any raw horns are getting rarer every year and your a lucky man if you can still find any....period! The National Cattle Breeders Assn. discourages breeders and farmers from breeding or selling horned cows becauseof shipping injury and the Mad Cow thing. I don't even mess around looking much for horns, when I can get first class raw horns that are cleaned, graded and available from John Shorb at Powerhorns and More. Thank you John for your excellent service to Horners!

Rick

PS....If you want the top end scrimshaw grade white horns. John sell's them on Feebay, but be ready to bid very high!
