I made this 'thing' because I was bored.

I call it a cigarette lock, because I detonate it with a cigarette. Every shot blows the head off the smoke.

No I didn't hit a single target I aimed it at.

The barrel is a smooth bore .44 that I think came off a wheel lock. I picked it up a while back because they only wanted $20 for the barrel and I figured I would do something with it eventually.

Well aren't YOU the enterprising lady? Huzzah! It is a gonne, perhaps more appropriatly an arquebus, hakenbusche, hackbutt...

It wants you to stop smoking I see.

:nono:

Huzzah! Not a whole lot different than the 1460's! One composite illustration of a Burgundian "handgunner" from the War of the Roses fracas, is holding a similar weapon which is set up on a deeper board stock with rounded butt and obviously the barrel is inlet rather than nailed on but what the heck, imagination is the start of all! :haha:

when I was playing around with it I was wondering how in the hell did the ancient dudes think that a gonne was a good idea for battle?
Well I guess if you had 20-50 other folks shooting down range, it may work somewhat.

Imagine fighting a loud, fire-breathing, smokey dragon from hell from which there is no protection, no defense. An indiscriminate, evil, earth-shattering salient.

The earliest appear to be a barrel on a stick, on sleds or angled stands. Sort of the old "shoot up here amongst us" deal! Saw on that had a pole shaft with a three barreled 'business end'...impressive.

How did you know I took shop class?
;)
I usually pulled an A. But in Metal Shop I only pulled a B.

I had to argue the point my first semester with my folks. I wasn't seen as tough enough for shop class.

Funny thing is as a kid and a teen I was always in shop if it was an option; I haven't made anything in a long time.

I was out in you neck of the woods last fall during the election. Seems there was this new low about smoking something other then fine viginia leaf(some sort of rope makins i was i remember) taint you a feared someone will use that as a smoking pipe...looks cute

Not bad M'lady. I would suggest thin metal straps, overlapping and nailed underneath the wood that the barrel rests upon. Use juice cans, cut out both ends, cut at the seam going down the side and burn off the paper, glue and shinny finish. Then cut your straps.

There was a multi-barrel wall gun at Higgins Armory, naught more than 3 short 8" barrels strapped in such a fashion to a slab of wood. Guessimate the calibre was .75. It looked as if it was meant to rest in a swivel mount.

Uhhhhhh:hmm:.........neat.......uh......different......uh......unusual........well, hell, I've never seen anything quite like it. :idunno: Beautiful stock work, though. :blah: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :hatsoff:
