depends on the condition of the gun. and how far you want it choked... if you have enough good steel it can be done by hand.. some guys like to turn them on a lathe and it probably isnt a good idea to do this with a double.. it can be hand done with a brake cylender hone type tool.. i would leave the right barrel cylinder and the left barrel mod or full.. but thats me.. dave

I would do just the opposite and have the left barrel cylinder and the right modified or full because i Always fire the left barrel first. Then it is easier to cock the right hammer for a second shot if needed. For me anyway.

anywhere i can get info on using a hone to jug a barrel. amount of stock to remove and where to remove it? thanks

I don't know if you can get it jug choked or not, but in talking with Lloyd Tennyson about this a year or so ago, I remember his telling me that the only way would be to seperate the barrels,do the choking then re-connect and re-regulate the barrels again.

I have a double 20ga made by David Dodds that is a duplicate of an original 1810 New York piece. I had the left barrel full turkey choked and the right barrel modified choked. At the time Dave strongly urged me to reverse the choke system and have the turkey choke on the right side FOR THE REASON REBEL POINTS OUT! I didn't,and I regreted it.

Recently had Ed Rayle build a set of 16ga barrels for wing shooting. The left barrel is cyl bore, and the right barrel is choked ten thousandths. :winking:

if you have the hammers tuned properly you should be able to cock both sides at once.. you put the gun on your shoulder when you expect action or when your in the field and carry your thumb over both hammers.. pull down with the right hand and, when as it rolls over it will cock giving you plenty of power to cock both barrels and no lost time haveing to cock the second barrel. i have a pedersoli 10 gauge and it works fine like this, shot lots of doubles and one lucky day got three ducks with two shots.. .. to do the hone job you do not need to do anything like taking the barrels apart.. call this guy and see if he can do it, if not he should know someone who will........... http://users.dls.net/~rdouglas/Mike Orlen Service and Prices.pdf .......... there should be plenty of guys who know who can do it at the mlra national shoot. slow down, take it easy, do your research and dont do the first one yourself without plenty of practice.. it probably isnt going to get done this season.. gunsmiths are buisy right now and they probably have a backlog.. i just read an article where trap shooters are starting to use jug chokes again, see if briley will do one.. they definitly would be the pricy bunch... but it will be as close to perfect as possible.. dave

thanks FFFFg, i'll give them a call. thats a good start on the info i'm searching for. at least i know it can be done without splitting the barrels. i don't want to make a 1000.00 gun out of a 300.00 one.
