Can it shoot round ball?

I've recently bought an Antonio Zoli 12G muzzle loading shotgun and was wondering if it would be safe to shoot lead round ball out of it.

Does anyone know if there is a way of telling if it will be safe rather than just giving it a go and hoping for the best.

Possibly. It's a grey area and depends on who and how the laws are read.

As far as safe, of course! A round ball weighs far less than an ounce of shot.

One ounce = 7000/16 = 437.5 grains
A 0.690" lead ball weighs 500 grains which is about 1 1/8 ounces.

So, the lead ball is as heavy as the shot charge for most 12 gauge loads.
