My 7 Ga. likes 1F better than 2F with some loads.

Just wondering if anyone has used Cannon grade powder [Goex makes some] in the large bores shooting birdshot?

I have a 7 gauge as well, Belgian Trade gun-flintlock. I have only used Goex 1Fg in it. I have some Goex Cannon, I will have to give it a go.

What loads are you shooting in that 7 gauge? I have a 4 bore rifle and so far the biggest load I have tried is 400 grains of 2F powder. Don't have any 1F powder but I think I should get some and give it a try.

170FF and a RB give me 1100fps with a 1000 grain ball.
100-150F and FF with 2-2.5oz birdshot
I didn't have much F to try, but will have 3 #s of F and a # of cannon on Tuesday.
115 F looked like it was going to work with a 2 oz load.
Billraby, I would also try some "cannon" powder

Always used 160gr. 1 fg. w/ equal volume shot and std. wads. Also can't remember the wt. of the cast r/b , but patched the ball and shot it a time or two at 25 yds.. Recoil on the bench was remarkable.............oldwood

The 'cannon' powder came in.
Also some more 1F.
Cannon powder doesn't flow thru my spout!
Very large chunks!
I may need 30 grains of 'priming' powder. [some 1F , duplex load]

Magnetospeed, did not read, but I got a nice pattern out of 30F,150C-2N-170-C.

Duplex load of 30F and 150 cannon, 2 Nitro cards, 170 Grain #7.5 shot,1 over shot Card.

Ignition was very fast, worked well...........more testing coming!

30F,150C,2N,170,C = 840 fps

50F,175C,2N,170,C = 950 fps

Both had nice patterns at 30 yds.

Probably 50F+222C for the next try. I would like to get up to near 1100 fps.

In my testing so far, the Cannon powder has the tightest [most dense] birdshot grouping. [30 yds]

Then the F, then 2F, as expected.

Now I need to test 150 grain of birdshot and see how it compares to the 170.

With the 150 1F-115 gr load shot as dense as the 150 2F-150. Including the 135 1F.

The fastest load was 150F-115 at 1035 fps, the same as the 150 FF- 150.

Now to test some reduced shot loads with the Cannon powder.
