I'm in the middle of making a half- ... er ... baked copy of the Lemuel Lyman pouch from the French and Indian Wars. Got the parts all cut out and vinegarooned and Barge cemented the flaps together. Then I noticed that I had forgotten to sew on the belt loops first, and the leather is too stiff to turn.
This is so typical of my craft projects -- not thinking them through and self-sabotaging.
I'll make this work by riveting on the loops, but that wasn't my original plan.
Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed ...

Try this Bill, from another guy whose projects go south too often for comfort.

Wet the bag (won't hurt a thing), and then put something in it to hold it open as wide as possible while the leather dries. That will give you the max hand room.

Now use a dab of Barge to stick your loops in place. I suppose you could slide a hunk of 2x4 into the bag so you could use a hammer-style punch, but I just use an awl to poke the holes for sewing.

With the bag "held" open like that, there should be enough room to allow you to saddle stitch, but it gets kinda "gymnastic" if you haven't glued the loops in place first.

Now, back to the reasons I know that stunt.... :rotf:

WELCOME TO THE CLUB BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, can you post a pic or 2, theres more than one way to screw up, er........... fix a project, been there done that buddy!

Beaverman: Here you go. Problem is I used 5-ounce leather (or so I think) on a fairly small bag with divider, making the whole thing pretty stiff. I think I will go ahead with the copper rivets and just rack it up as another lesson learned!

By the way, I'm also going to make another batch of vinegaroon. I think the dragoon holster on the left came out darker because I wiped it with strong tea first, as suggested by LaBonte.

Bill, if you have not sewn it yet, you could easily open the ends back up that are glued using a stanley knife with a new sharp blade, just go slow and easy ( trust me it works) have had to do this more than once, re-glue and stitch away, hope this helps, Beav

That's gonna be a nice lookin' bag, Bill!
Just verifies my theory that none of us are perfect.
