Any other cap and ball hunters here?

Dan

I've never done it, but you've got me curious: Is that a .36 or a .44? Do you 'bark' the critter the way you do with a flinter smokepole, (that I've done), or are you making headshots? How close?

In any case, pretty cool stuff!

Homesteader;

That's a Pietta .36 and it's zeroed to shoot point of aim at 15 yards. Normally, I carry it while hunting with my percussion SXS or .36 long rifle for shots that are too close to use the long guns on. That particular squirrel was taken at about 15 feet and was a headshot (which is why the head is not visible in the photo).

I've taken numerous squirrels and rabbits with that pistol and one red fox at about 10 yards!

I also take a cap and ball with me when squirrel hunting for those close shots. Haven't had the occassion arise yet to use the old hog leg though.

The first shot out of my Ruger Old Army nailed a grey Squirrel. Heck of a shot too. 3 feet.

I did get em in the head though.
