There might not be a shortage from where you are looking but i just checked Graff has zero caps no #11 #10 or musket caps
Midway has RWS case lot of 2500 #11 caps for $124 and some 209 primers. so if there is no shortage it seems funny they dont have any.
I am ok i had a friend add caps on his order and he got me 1,000 #11 caps and was supposed to order 1.000 musket caps but ordered #2,000 musket caps instead. i sometime use musket caps in my TC rifles so i should be ok for a while. if i find caps in stock i would buy a few more i also picked up a dozen flints from TOW recently.

Midway has been selling caps non-stop for over a month or more until recently.
The last that I checked Jedediah Starr never ran out of caps.
Just because folks don't know and haven't asked where to buy them doesn't mean that they're not available anywhere.
So many want to buy from the same national vendors instead of expanding their search.
I've also seen it posted here to contact Back Creek Gun Shop, Winchester, VA if you need caps.
AFAIK they didn't run out of caps either and have been selling them during this entire shortage.

"Would be awesome if someone made nipples that took modern primers instead of caps!"

I am an FFL and couldn’t find any caps until I found an obscure supplier that had CCI #10’s and #11’s in stock. I ordered 2000 of each and am awaiting confirmation of my order. I would love to share the find with all but it is wholesale only. I am not well informed regarding Hazmat shipping laws, but I bought Goex from Midway for $11 hazmat fee but other suppliers want $37 hazmat to ship the caps.
What I’m saying is if I could ship to you legally without prohibitive fees, I would do it for little or no profit, so we could continue to enjoy our sport.

Yes, just like toilet paper during covid hoarding. Why such a shortage is my question. Many sites are out of stock.

I know if one case where an individual was buying up any and all ammunition components and advertising them in large urban areas after jacking his price up 5 x what he paid....he did the same with cheap Chinese shotguns..and sold out fast. I guess it’s legal, but it ain’t right.

I just mail order from any of the on-line retailers.
I buy in 1K boxes, re-order when I get down to 3 or 4 hundred.
Not just caps for MZL - but also for those suppository guns, I go through a lot of primers and powder, buy on-line and save money.
Never had any issues, never run out.

Over the last few years I've just bought a tin or two when I found them on sale or at a reasonable regular price at gunships, sporting goods stores, big box, etc. I'd have to count up to see how many I have. I've got a few in the truck, some in the gun cabinet, some in shooting bags, range boxes and who knows where. They should be available again before I run out or I'll just pick up a few tins when I find them.

I got shamed, read here a few lines of the shortage, went on line to ALL THE NORMAL SITES AND ALL OUT, FOUND SOME rws AT mIDWAY AND BOUGHT 2500. zONIE HAS SAID THE ARE GOOD SO i BET i NEVER RUN OUT NOW. i DID JUST CHECK A FEW SITES THE GUYS LISTED ABOVE AND SEE THEY ARE TO BE FOUND THOUGH. sorry for yelling lol, fat fingers i just super sensitive since the last .22 shortage and then the TP and bounty paper towels and just couldnt think of being w/o my cap guns! Getting a few more rock locks fer sure though!

Basspro has Remington #10'and #11's just now when I checked.
A person needs to search for Remington primers and they are listed under a photo of black powder 209 primers.
Yesterday they were out when I checked while others posted that they were able to order them.
So it looks like they are on and then off again on the Basspro website.
And they are eligible to be shipped to homes or a local store.
But at $8.99 per tin, who would want to stockpile thousands of caps at that price.
Folks shouldn't think that Remington's new owners. don't want to profit by producing caps.
The chains are receiving large orders and are rationing them by charging higher prices.
At least gasoline prices are low.
I live in Columbus, GA. Today, on our day off, we went over to Macon, GA, about 80 miles to the East to the Bass Pro Shops, there. They had many #11 caps in stock. I picked up another 500. You can’t have too many caps, flints or powder. I am very set with flints and powder.

You guys made me wonder about my supply of caps. I had to wander off and check my inventory. I am in a good spot at the present time, with an abundance of #11's and musket caps.
Since I have not been to the shooting range since the beginning of this unpleasant situation, I am not burning up my supply of materials. When I am not forced to wear a mask and gloves, have my temperature taken and asked to sanitize the shooting bench, I will return to the firing line.

It seems that every time we have an election we have panic buying of modern ammo. But I have not noticed it on black powder supplies. Most shortages are caused by lack of production since they can sell as much modern as they can make so why produce low volume items. It is simple a matter of supply and demand. We are not a large demand compared to the modern side.

Actually not legal. It's price gouging.
I wish it were so, but price gouging laws only go in to affect if the state has declared a state of emergency, and it only covers essential items like food, medicine, lodging, fuel and such. While lots of firearms and ammo gouging complaints have been filed by unhappy customers during price spikes, it’s up to the courts to interpret whether firearms and ammo are ruled essential and protected under gouging laws. So far I haven’t seen a single case of a court doing so.

That means it’s up to us to remember who did the gouging refuse to do business with them in the future.

I truly wish we could get them delivered here in the UK. Special carriage is so expensive it's cheaper to collect them. My nearest supplier is 80 miles away and with our traffic that's no fun. Same applies to black powder.
