Advise requested on capping an 1858 Remington ... on the firing line. Shooting NMLRA requires I cap the firearm on the firing line, so it seems loading each nipple from a cap tin is not feasible, as it looks to require at least three hands.
My trouble is getting the cap on the nipple when the cylinder is in the pistol, then a spent cap gets stuck somewhere preventing the cylinder from turning.
Tried all maner of cappers, and clearly the straight line won't work. The Cash snail shaped seems almost to work, and the oval Cash "Rifleman's" also does not work.
I've have tried Pietta/Euroarms/Uberti versions with similar results: about 1 in 20 shots wedge the used cap in the receiver, requiring a forecfull rotation, or at worst, a knife blade to pick out the spent cap.
Could it be the factory nipples need to be dressed to better hold a #11 Remington cap?
