I found that my CCI #11 were too big for my Uberti Walker and my CCI #10 were too small. What has anyone here used? Also, what size balls have your tried? It seems that my .454s are not that tight and it shaves quite a bit of lead if I use .457.

CCI NO. 10's are just a bit small on both my Uberti and ASM Walkers, so I find I have to seat them with a dowel or the long leg on a short starter. Both guns still have the OEM nipples.

Any of the other brands and sizes are going to be too big; the CCI No. 10's are 0.160" across the open end, while everything else is 0.165" or bigger.

So, you have 4 choices:
1) Use a dowel or short starter to seat the CCI No. 10's
2) Remove the nipples and turn them down to fit the CCI No. 10's better. Place the nipple in a drill chuck (on the widest part, not the threads!) and use some 120 grit wet/dry sandpaper for metal to sand down the cone while turning it slowly. Test often so you don't overdo it.
3) Replace the nipples.
4) Use any of the others and pinch them together on the nipple.

The correct round ball size for the Walker is 0.457".

Replace the nipples with TRESO nipples and use Remington # 10 caps. I won't even shoot a C&B gun these days unless it has Treso nipples on it.
I'd use a .457 ball.

I had a couple of remington #10 caps. I tried them and they fit. I'll buy some more. What is the advantage of the Tresco nipples?

They last much longer than a steel or stainless steel nipple. The steel and S/S nipples erode fairly quickly. The heavier the chatge the faster they go.

My second-series Colt Walker #1816 came with #26 nipples, designed to take the #26 Joyce cap.

Having paid $25 for an original box of Joyce caps to put in the gun case, I then changes out the nipples for #11, and have used them ever since with RWS 1075 hot caps.

Treso nipples also have a smaller flash channel, the theory being it "concentrates" the heat. Don't know if that's why it works, but they do seem to be more reliable. The Ampco bronze alloy allows the smaller channel as it does not foul with the combustion byproducts as readily.

Now there's an idea! :haha:
Which reminds me, I need to call them today and get another set for a 1860 colt army.
