I made these straps for my new hunting pouch and old horn. Each of them measures abought 1 1/8 inches wide, and are made with wool. I intended to only make one for the new pouch, but I threaded the cards wrong and ended up with the broken design. I was aiming for the smooth design. The second go at it, I did manage to get it like I wanted. I must still be on that long learning curve.

These are the patterns I used if anyone is interested in them. The only differance is the threading direction and the outside yarn colors. The smooth design is the top picture.
The broken design one is starting to look better for me now that it's on the horn.

Hope you like them.

HeY there!
for your first two, I'd say you got it!
I found that the 14 and 16 cards are pretty managable. I just finished one in red wool, it was a challenge, from a fiber standpoint. I really like to work with the cotton!

Did I send you the web address for the pattern making program?

What did you use for a "loom" and how long are your straps?

Addictive, is'nt it!

you done good! dang good!

Looks great! Now how about a tutorial on how to do this WITH pictures from some of you experts!? :hmm:

I sent a slew of "how to" files to a bunch of forum folks and also a link to a site with an excellent pattern making program.

PT me your email address and I will forward it to you.
a little deeper in this forum, I got some pics of a few I made also.

Very nice Skunkskinner!

I can't decide which one I like best... :hmm: They both turned out pretty sweet.

Thanks for your kind words everyone.

brett sr,
I've tried the pattern making program before, but I like to just make a pattern on paper and see how it turns out before my own eyes, right or wrong.
These straps are 7 feet long, better to long than to short,I found out the hard way. I just tie the wool to posts I have clamped to my work bench, they are abought 3 feet apart.

Davy,
If I was to type up a tutorial on how to, it would take me a week at least,(I still can only type with 1 finger  )The best I can do for ya is the pattern and recemend a good book.
I checked on amazon.com, they have the book "Card weaving by Candace Crockett" for $ 13.50 and up. That's were I got mine a year ago or so, it is a very good read.
This is the best I could do for a picture, It's my set up,sorry I don't have more pics. I'll work on that.
Thanks again all.

other than I use 2 C clamps on a 10 foot 1x6 versus your posts clamped to the bench, I would say our "systems" are equal!
Candice's book is an excelent read and will address any issues pertaining to this card weaving stuff.

That Blue, Brown and white is going to look nice!

Good Times!

I like the yarn comb in one of the pictures. I wouldn't have thought about that.
