Well fellers, Miss Tudys been cleaning the house and said it was time for my curtains and old caribou horn rod to come down. Now, not wanting to waste anything we decided on a Bowie with horn haft. It has an aged 3/16" 1080 blade 7 1/2" long and pewter pommel and ferrule. The handle is nicely cracked but solid.
Miss Tudy made a simple leather sheath for this one, hand sewn and laced for a frontier look. Hope y'all have a look...Nifeman

I like your knife! I use caribou antler for my knapping tool handles.
I would like to know just what exactly characterizes a "Bowie"? I think I've seen just about every knife configuration known to man called a Bowie knife at one time or another. Mike D.

Mike - get a copy of "The Bowie Knife Unsheathing a Legend - one of the BEST sources for info on the history of the Bowie and to better understand the whole genre - as you noted the name has been applied over the years to a dizzying number of styles and as to exactly what an original Bowie was it's still an open discussion even amongst the best students of the subject.... https://www.google.com/search?sour...6US476&q=The+Bowie+Knife+Unsheathing+a+Legend
