high tech world of flintlock smoothbores and computers. :: I got my first smoothbore flinter recently too. It is a North Star West Early English Tradegun in .62cal./.20ga. Shoots real good with a Lee home cast .600 rd ball over 70grs. of Goex 3f powder. I don't use a patch with it, as the bore is too tight. I put the powder and then a thick over powder wad down. Then i seat a fiber cushion wad just below the muzzle and place the rd. ball on it sprue up. Push down far enough to start an overshot card wad on top, and then ram it all down on top of the over powder wad. I also found that if i drill a small(1/16") hole in the overpowder wad it lets the trapped air go through making it easier to seat the other wads and ball. Might give it a try to see how it works for you. Have fun.

Jim, where did you get your Carolina smoothbore if I may ask?
