I've had my eyes on either a Coehorn mortar, or a half scale 6 pounder. Problem is, I can't seem to find anyone who makes or sells carriage kits. Barrels no problem, carriages no. Is this something I'd have to make myself? I could do it but who sells plans even? Anyone have a lead?

This is what I am using to build field gun carriages. It has a scale chart in back. Very detailed with measurements for all components including barrels which can be scaled down to your requirements. Pricey item though. md18210016980.jpg

Get your drawings here. Very detailed and not expensive.

I used them to build this 1/4 scale Napoleon. This is a #2 carriage which is a bit heavier than a #1 carriage.

There are a whole lot of pieces involved.

You will have a difficult time finding someone to build a 1/2 scale #1 field carriage. If you do find someone, expect it to be pretty expensive
Certainly well in excess of $5,000.
Detailed carriages like the one above are extremely time consuming.

I seriously doubt you will ever find a kit.

How about naval carriages? I actually would prefer one of these as they seem simpler to build and easier to store due to them being smaller.

That is truly a work of functional art. Very impressive work! That took some time as most of it has to have been made by hand, right down to the fasteners which must be to scale, and period correct. True, there are no kits available or even completed commercial replicas that can compare.

Sidney, I’ve been working on a 1/2 scale no.1 field carriage for awhile now. If you’re not tooled up for building something like this it’s going to take a lot of hand work. As @zulu said, there are a bunch of parts. I bought my wheels from Hansen wheel and wagon. That’s where I also got the plans from. They may have plans for a naval carriage also.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I can do a naval carriage. Not sure I have the skill to do a field carriage.
