I need some carving patterns so I can dress up my GPR. Is their a source on the web to maybe get some patterns to print out. I`d also like to see some custom rifle pictures but can`t seem to find any of those either. When I do a search It comes up with everything but what i`m looking for.

Thanks to all,
Burch :cursing:

Burch,
Try this link for some pics of custom Hawken rifles:

Also this one for pics of original Hawkens:

When I started my GPR, I thought about carving, but have settled on some inletting. The Hawken didn't seem to be a fancy gun, so alot of carving would probably be out of character. Of course, it's what you want that is important...

I'm starting another GPR (for a friend) and Investarms Hawken. I think the modern Hawkens (TC, Investarms, CVA, Traditions, etc.) with their shiny brass and all, can handle some carving without being overwhelmed. It might not be very PC, but the gun itself isn't PC anyway.

The GPR seems like it could be overwhelmed pretty easy though. I've considered doing some simple incising on mine, but my friend wants his as authentic as possible.

I'm hoping to build enough carving skill to do a bit of embellishment to my Hawken when I get around to it. Been too humid here to do much of anything lately.

BTW Scott. Thanks for the links. Those are great sources for ideas.

I've finally got back to working on my Lyman. Last month I was in a frenzy to repair a crack in the rudder of my Aeronca and get it flying before the Antique Flyin in mid August, so there was not much time for the GPR (I also got sidetracked restoring an old knife :( ). I then built a gun vise/bench per the photos posted here awhile back. I'm now working on shaping the stock. I remembered seeing those web sites and had a heck of a time finding them again. They are good reference...

You may be right about the carving job. I have a few pics from the fine folks here but sure would like to see some more pics of home project GPR`s.
Shoot me an e-mail with some pics.

Burch: You are not gonna get too many photos of carved GPR's, cause it is not supposed to be a carved rifle. It is a utility rifle, in reference to a Hawken rifle & that also was a utility rifle. I have seen a few of them tacked, but few.....

Now don't get me wrong, I am not cutting the rifle, heck I have 2 GPR's and they have served me will. But most of your carved rifles are gonna be long rifles rather than halfstocks. :winking:

Burch,
I've just started working on my stock and it really isn't at a stage yet for me to show off. When I get the stock better shaped I plan to post some pics of my progress.
