176. *Cased Pair of English Percussion Traveling Pistols by Philip Bond of London
The pistols are 10 3/4" in overall length with 6" octagonal barrels with .62 caliber smoothbores. The lockplates have minimal floral engraving at the tails and are marked "P.BOND" at the centers. The barrels are marked "CORNHILL, LONDON". The walnut stocks have checkered round butts and extend nearly to the muzzle. They have engraved steel furniture that includes large butt caps, and triggerguards with pineapple finials. The lockplates are equipped with sliding safety bolts. There are traces of blue on the butt caps, triggerguards and ramrod ferules, but most of the metal is a clean steel gray with a little age spotting. Both stocks have a repairable grain crack at the barrel wedge and have good edges with sharp checkering. Both pistols have horn tipped ramrods, but one is a period replacement. The English oak case is of the period, has been relined in coarse cloth and has an added label for "LANG'S/ Guns + Pistol/ Repository". Accessories include a round ball mould, a small powder flask, a metal oil bottle and a two-piece ebony and brass cleaning rod. The case and accessories are in very good condition.
