I think we are all guilty of this sometime or another, an over played hand! I bought this no more than a month ago with the intent on keeping but unfortunately that is not going to happen. I just have too many irons in the fire and need the capital for another rifle and one after that that I am having built! This black powder thing has become quite the addiction! Anyway enough blathering. I’m releasing this sweet heart for what I paid 975 shipped! On a side note I have not shot this rifle since I bought it. I bought this from cowboy and I’m going to copy and paste his post just below mine. See
I have a very nice Hawken Rifle built a gentleman, last name Guthrie. First name I can’t recall? His son Matt Guthrie was selling off his father’s collection. They hailed from Massachusetts. Matt told me his father built several Hawken and flintlock rifles and was also heavily involved in Rendezvous and the BP scene through the 70’s and 80’s. I had this Hawken for several years now. It’s solid and a rugged sturdy Hawken built with the best parts on the market at the time.
Built by R Guthrie as marked on the barrel.
Caliber- is a .58 cal.
Lock- is a Bob Roller lock.
Triggers- are Cherry Corners triggers, double lever-double set.
Nose Cap- poured pewter.
Stock- Curly Maple with a satin finish. Absolutely beautiful figured and sturdy.
Barrel- can’t find a makers mark but is definitely custom! Has 8 lands and grooves and is 1:56 twist. Length is 33 1/4” long. Barrel is tapered from 1 and 1/16” at the breech down to 1” at the muzzle. Has a fixed breech meaning the barrel and tang are connected verses a patent breech meaning they separate. Definitely a solid sturdy barrel capable of handling heavy charges. Bore is mirror bright! Nipple size is your standard 1/4x28.
Sight’s are full buckhorn adjustable rear. Front is silver blade set in a brass base.
Ramrod is hickory with a 8/32 tip on one end.
LOP is 13 3/8”
Weight is 10 lbs.
A beautiful custom made rendition of a solid built J&S Hawken rifle. Can definitely bring down anything on the North American continent.
PayPal F&F is preferred
Thank you, mike
