Howdy,
I am new to the forum and anticipate learning from the many who know so much more than I. I picked up a Challenger Mfg. Co. Heritage repro of a Hopkins & Allen underhammer today and was wondering if anyone can tell me about this gun? It is a neat looking gun and appears to be unfired. 45 caliber. Can't seem to find any info anywhere. Thanks for any help. Mike

I cannot find anything on Challenger Mfg. Co, but at one time Numrich Arms made a "Heritage" model of the H&A underhammer.

In the book "Black Powder Guide", long out of print it says
"Heritage Model: Top of the H&A underhammer gun line, fitted with walnut fore-end and brass buttplate and patch box.
Barrel is 15/16 across the flats, 32" long, available in .3 6 or .45 caliber, uniform or gain twist rifling. Hooded aperture front sight, elevator leaf rear, and long-range aperture tang sight.
Weight 8 1/4 lbs. in .36 caliber, 8 lbs. in .45.

This may or may not be your rifle, but during the hayday of blackpowders resurection in the 1970s there were a lot of companies who marketed the guns of the major makers and at that time Numrich Arms was considered a fairly major maker.

Hope this helps you and, welcome to the forum. :)

zonie :)
