chambers or track kit

Thinking about building lancaster longrifle interested in the difference in quality of a chambers kit versus track kit. Anyone built both kits and getting parts a problem??

Just finishing the 3rd Chambers' early Lancaster "kit" and have only done one TOW Lancaster "kit". Normally I build from a blank but the Chambers' "kits" are the exception for good reason. Never had any problems w/ any of the Chambers "kits"....the locks are the best and the stock profiling is well done and yields a PC product. The Rice swamped, breeched bbls are very well done, both inside and out, have the front sight and bbl lug dovetails cut and require little finishing before browning.The brass hardware is the best on the market, finishes nicely and can be bent w/o concern of cracking. All in all,Chambers has the best "kits" on the market although a little more expensive. A Chambers "kit" does require some skill in drilling and tapping, completing inlets, wood shaping and is not a factory kit that mainly only requires sanding,finishing and final assembly. The Chambers parts sets are definately better sets than the TOW parts sets or Tips parts sets, for a guy going to build one or two rifles.. If Chambers had what I wanted, would not even hesitate getting it from him, as his parts sets Are worth the lil extra they cost. Chambers will only use the best of the best & their QC control is superb, and the entire Chambers family are great people to deal with. His parts sets are more limited that Tips or TOW.

IMHO, TOW parts sets are just parts pulled from the bins & you get what you get, and for me that usually means returning some parts because of defects or wrong parts shipped. They are imfamous for backorders......

Tips parts sets are good parts & I have used more of his parts than anyone elses, however, Tip buys in large bulk orders & in doing so I feel he is not as picky on the QC area as Chambers is. He is cheaper than Chambers if you are working on price alone & want it all from one place. However, he ALWAYS has been good about replacing anything I found questionable & he is always a pleasure to deal with. Tip has an inventory that is truely astounding & has one of the best variety of parts avail. & it seems he always has what I want. If he is out of something, you can just about bet everyone else is out of it too as he is a volume buyer on parts & usually has things when everyone else is out. If you are ever over his way, it is Definately worth a stop to see his place & inventory.

No, that is not correct. Tip may be the only guy that stocks an vast assortment of Lancaster stocks cut for 44" barrels, but he is not the only place you can get one. Lots of the stock carvers & allot of builders will put whatever barrel you want in one, you just send them the barrel & tell them to make it fit this barrel. Been there done that.......

Tip Curtis Frontier Shop. (615) 654-4445. You have to call him as he doesn't have a web site. Or if you are near Nashville TN, it is worth a days drive to go there & look about. Figure on being there at least half the day, as you won't want to leave.

Chambers' Isaac Haines kit comes with only a 38" barrel. Too bad cause if it came with a longer barrel I'd buy it. GW

The Chambers early Lancaster is very similar to the Isaac Haines but w/ a 44" bbl. The butt profile is nearly the same.....Fred
