On Saturday Lord Cornwallis will start his North Carolina invasion by attacking Charlotte. He had to fight his way into town. Once in Charlotte the local patriot militia rose up and denied the British of their forage. Add to this Cornwallis had Patrick Ferguson and his Loyalist Training army operating south of Charlotte guarding the British bases of Camden and 96. Ferguson was defeated and his force killed or captured on October 7th. Not being able to feed his horses or men and his blocking force destroyed. The Earl Cornwallis's grand NC invasion lasted 14 days. He marched back into the slightly more hospitable grounds of South Carolina leaving Charlotte with the name "The Hornet's Nest".

The place, Latta Plantation north of Charlotte.
The British invade on Saturday at 1PM, The British foragers run into the militia on Sunday at 1PM.

Thank you for posting this info. Do you happen to know of any other NC events comming up late September on?

Thanks, m.

I will second the South Eastern in November. There will be a Ferguson Rifle live fire demonstration probably the first Saturday. Last year we let people shoot the Ferguson Rifle until we ran out of ball and powder. How often do you get a chance to live fire a Ferguson Ordinance Rifle? With the Ferguson Rifle demo on the first day, the rest of the week I get to Rendezvous!

Howdy from Virginia, will not be able to make southeatern, but if there is any way you can post some pics of your Ferguson Rifle that would be great. I just got a custon 50 cal flinter last year and love shooting, rendevousing and learning about history. Hope to take some fat deer this year as well.

If you can figure out how to search earlier posts, I posted a ton of pictures and information on the Ferguson Rifle a couple of years back.
