Went to the local sporting goods store for some shotgun shells, went by the "small" BP section (mostly Inline stuff), they had Remington Caps on sale for $0.97 per 100 caps. Bought 500 caps (all they had). Love it when I grab a deal. I only hope this doesn't mean they are going to stop selling what little BP stuff they carry.

:shocked2:

Here in New Zealand I am paying..........and I kid thee not...........USD6.80 per 100.

Ouch! What are you paying USD for black powder?

I was just checking out the price of CCI caps, $3.79 for regular and $3.95 for Mags.

I also see that Cabelas has raised there prices from last year.

You can order them cheaper, but you must buy a bunch of them to cover the HASMAT fee.

I bought 700 of those same caps at .97 cents! I own a retail store, and that is way cheaper than I can buy them!

You don't want to know!

We can only get Chinese crap and it is the same price as you buy Swiss for.

Sigh.............

I used some of the Chinese "Dragon" 2f powder in my smoothbore this year for turkey hunting. It worked ok, but it does foul more than Goex 3f. Course 2f normally does, so not sure if it is more or about the same as Goex 2f since i couldn't get any of it locally. It was $11.50 a lb locally.

.97c is a dang good price.
the 3.50 to 4.00 per/100 is what they are going for out of my shop.
Prices are due to jump again June 1 according to one of my wholesale places.

& it ain't gonna get no better

Can you tell us the reason for the increases?

I've noticed a price increase in all ammo: Shot shells, Pistol, and centerfire rifle. Maybe the impact of oil prices cause an increase in raw material costs?

The Remington caps I used several years ago were not worth .97. I ended up throughing them away, and have never tried them since.

I haven't used Remington caps for years because I stock up when the Western Nationals are here in Phoenix. CCI and RWS have been around $22/1000.
When I did use Remington caps they always worked well for me. :)

I currently use Remington caps and have never
experienced any problem with them. But, I've
never had any problems with CCI either. Never
tried RWS. The last time I purchased caps I
believe they were 3.49per 100. Occasionally
you will find deals like that at Wal-Mart but
its just a matter of being there at the right
time.

I got on that same deal to and bought 500 caps!! I spent like $5.34 when I normally would have spent 25 bucks! That is a good deal.

RWS are the only caps worth buying IMHO
I hate to say that being an " I only like to buy Amercian made guy"
NewZealand guy..
Can you make your own B/P??? There is a great link to a swiss gentalman that will show you how it's done.
It's illeal in this "land of the free"
what a crock.....

In your experience, do caps go bad over time, (do they have a shelf life)? I havent bought any in ages. I have several old partial tins lying around that I still use on occasion. (use mostly flint now!)

The last time out with the percussion, I tried some old CVAs that were probably 20+ years old. They seemed to have lost some of their zip, (what little they had to begin with). It could have been my imagination, because this particular batch was not real great when new.

Making blackpowder will definately not
show up around here for sure and for all the
obvious reasons. :nono: :nono:
